The Border Terrier is one of the many working terriers, which originated along the borders of England and Scotland. Terriers have been used there for centuries, to hunt the fox, otter and other small animals.
General appearance: Essentially a working terrier, capable of following a horse, combining activity with gameness, happy and friendly but courageous.
Eyes: dark with a keen expression.
The standard recognizes four colours: red, wheaten,
grizzle and tan and blue and tan.
These days we only see two of these colours :
grizzle and tan and blue and tan.
Most Borders have a little ring of greyish hairs at about 1/3 of the tail.
Border Terriers are companionable by nature,
affectionate and sensitive to approval. They are not really good guards, being too friendly. They are athletic hard workers. They take readily to and enjoy agility and flyball. When being trained for this, they do not need any psyching up, as do some of the larger breeds.
